I am so proud of every one of them. They are such an important part of my life. I love them all dearly. When I'm gone, these people are my living legacy. All the work one does, all the community involvement, everything, nothing matters as much as your family.
As a father I know I've made (and continue to make) lots of mistakes. These things called "kids" don't come with manuals (as a guy, it's not like I would actually read the manual...nonetheless)
As parents we don't have a great ready-made point of reference. Things happen in the moment, and the only point of reference one has is your own up-bringing. I like to think I had a great life growing up; my parents gave me a solid family situation from which to approach life. My mom and dad (Marilyn and Keith) are still married after something like 53 years, and while they are firmly in their senior years, I still see the young, vital people that shaped my youth.
With my marriage to Jenny in August 2007, I got a whole new family. Jenny's mom Jill, father Lawrence and brother Jeffery (and his family Becky, Freddy and Archie) brought a whole new dimension to my life. Jenny's and my parents have so much in common; it explains why we have so much in common.
